UC Davis Department of Theatre and Dance proudly presents The Laramie Project, a riveting contemporary drama that examines the aftermath of a hate crime and its profound impact on a rural American community. Triggered by the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay University of Wyoming student, the play brought national attention to the absence of comprehensive hate crime legislation.
Written by Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project, including alumnus Greg Pierotti (M.F.A., Dramatic Arts, ’16), The Laramie Project weaves together hundreds of interviews with residents of Laramie, journal entries from the theatre company members, and news reports. The result is a powerful exploration of humanity, prejudice, and resilience.
Featuring: Ananya Yogi, Ryley Sakai, Poe Angeles Dayao, Madeline Weissenberg, Daxi Jiang, Melaine Garcia, Arman Abbassi, and Mia Dunbar.
